Habitats - Field Guide to The Dishman Hills Natural AreaHabitats are divisions of the natural landscape usually defined by their plant communities. Some of the factors that influence an area's habitat are availability of water, topography, elevation, soil, and underlying rock types. Climate (temperature, precipitation, exposure, and wind) also factor in to the divisions of habitat type. Because of the mixed uses of Dishman Hills it's topography, geologic history, exposure and soil types the habitats of this area are diverse ranging from dry Pondersa Pine forests to moist Quaking Aspen lined ponds.

During the last century many forests of our region have been replaced by pastures and settlements. Nevertheless, the Dishman Hills has managed to remain a landscape that is rich in habitat variety and suitable for a lifetime of education, and exploration.
